BOX design + audio have proudly supported the 2003 Combined Churches
Christmas Concert held at the Wollongong Town Hall on 21 December 2003.
Following
the successful concert for the Combined Churches in December 2002, GUZ
BOX design + audio were engaged to return a second time to provide
audio services in 2003.
The Combined Churches Christmas Concert is an annual event organised
by the Central Wollongong Ministers Fraternal and brings together the
congregations of the churches of central Wollongong for one big Christmas
Concert. This year the event was once again held in the Wollongong Town
Hall.
The Wollongong Town Hall was designed during the 1920s and is typical
of the style of that time. The room seats approx 1800 people and is
rectangular shaped with stage and pipe organ at one end, level main
seating area and raked balcony at the rear. Reverberation times are
typical for choral and orchestral presentations.
GUZ BOX design + audio designed the sound reinforcement system
to provide even coverage to all seating areas. The main loudspeaker
central cluster consisted of two FR01RV Full Range Loudspeakers manufactured
by Acoustic Technologies, Brisbane. These were flown with the lighting
system approximately 6 rows back from the front of the audience area.
An additional two FR01RVs were located equally on either side of the
stage apron to provide coverage for the front rows. An Acoustic Technologies
BB01 Sub-bass Enclosure supplemented the FOH system. Two Acoustic Technologies
E2500 Power Amplifiers powered the FOH system, with the BB01 signal
also run through a Rane SAC22B crossover.
On stage monitoring for the feature artist consisted of two Acoustic
Technologies LG01 Loudspeaker Enclosures. These small loudspeakers were
perfectly suited to providing monitor support for the on-stage performers,
which featured main artists and small choir ensembles.
The concert relied on both pre-recorded and live performance audio content.
Fixed microphones and wireless headsets were used for the live performance.
Combined singing featured the Town Hall pipe organ and the Wollongong
Salvation Army Band together with an audience of approximately 1500
people. CD audio cues were provided for drama presentations and also
for backing tracks for the feature artist.
The whole concert was mixed through an Allen + Heath MixWiz16:4:2.
The installed system performed exceptionally well and provided excellent
coverage and sound quality. All components blended to satisfy the production
requirements of the demanding program. The sound reinforcement system
catered for the subtleties of acoustic guitar while still allowing the
feature artist to sing over a full Salvation Army Brass Band accompaniment.
The sound reinforcement components for the 2003 Combined Churches Christmas
Concert were provided by GUZ BOX design + audio.
